April 10, 2017 Legislative Update

HB 2 has been negotiated and sent back to the House for a final vote. At this point in the session, things can move very quickly.

They are currently negotiating details on the bonding bill. SB 367 is the Bonding Bill that is moving forward. The bill includes the majority of the elements that were included in the original HB 14. The Heritage Center has been removed and is moving forward in its own bill with funding from increased lodging fees. The only disagreement is still around Romney Hall at MSU. There is a rally at the Capitol this Wednesday at 11:00 am to reiterate the need for the bonding bill. Please plan to attend if this works for your schedule.

SB 335 the Public Private Partnership Bill has a hearing this afternoon at 3:00 pm. There are amendments that are currently being drafted to address some of the concerns with the bill. I spoke with the bill drafter this morning and they were still working on the language so I have not seen the amendments. I will send those on to all of you to review when I receive them. After speaking with Connie, it sounds like we still want to sit the sideline on this one…
SB 278 Revise Procurement Process was finally voted on in the House and passed  2nd Reading 94 to 5. It is scheduled for Third Reading today.
HB 473 Fuel Tax Bill had a good hearing in Senate Finance and Claims on Friday morning. Executive Action is expected on the bill on Wednesday.
